Film and Video Studies

The Listener was a weekly publication, established by the BBC in 1929 as the medium for reproducing radio - and later, television - programmes in print. It is our only record and means of accessing the content of many early broadcasts.

1929-1991

Detailed directory listings for all FIAF Affiliates--institutions that are members of the FIAF (Federation Internationale des Archives du Film, i.e. International Federation of Film Archives), as well as for FIAF Donors--institutions, companies, and individuals that do not qualify for FIAF membership but wish to support and adhere to FIAF's activities and principles. Provides website addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, fax numbers, postal addresses, names of officers, etc.

Provides a comprehensive and accessible introduction to film and film studies, covering such aspects as production, national traditions, studios, genres, critical theory and film history. Included as part of the Gale Virtual Reference Library.

This database allows you to find detailed information on books, pamphlets, programs, and other materials published since 1966 by more than 140 archives in more than 70 countries who are institutional members of the FIAF (Federation Internationale des Archives du Film, i.e. International Federation of Film Archives).

The earliest default search date for publication year on the main search page appears as 1934 because for serial publications (e.g. annual reports, journals) the first year of publication is noted. Comprehensive indexing is available from 1966 onwards. 1966 -

Contains comprehensive information about the world's foremost archives, libraries, and educational institutions dedicated to the preservation and documentation of film and television productions. Each entry includes details of published and unpublished materials, visual and sound collections, and special collections held by the institution.

Based on 1994 print edition.

Contains credits and holdings information for more than 40,500 silent-era films (both features and short films, and both documentaries and fictional works) in the collections of major film archives worldwide. Entries for each film include original title, alternate titles, and key credits and production information as well as indicating which archive(s) hold(s) a print of the film.

Although most records in this database describe films made before 1929, the database includes a few silent works produced during the sound era.

Contains descriptions of over 400,000 articles published in more than 345 of the world's foremost academic and popular film journals. Incorporates two print indexes, the International Index of Film Periodicals (1972-present) and the International Index to Television Periodicals (1979-2000). Each entry consists of a full bibliographic description, an abstract and comprehensive headings (biographical names, film titles and general subjects). This is the only database offering film periodical indexing using a hierarchically ordered controlled thesaurus with more than 20,000 subject terms. The index contains comprehensive television periodical indexing until 2000 and TV related articles from film periodicals continue to be indexed.

1972 -

A massive digital library bringing together materials digitized by Google, the Internet Archive, libraries at HathiTrust partner institutions, and other commercial digitization schemes.  Includes searchable access to over 9 million volumes, including over 5 million books and over 240,000 serial publications, with full text access to 27% of these materials (over 2.5 million volumes).

Over 62 million records describing books, periodicals, sound recordings, videos, musical scores, archival materials, maps, electronic resources, and much more, in over 400 different languages. Shows what materials are held by over 57,000 libraries worldwide (including most libraries in North America, and the national libraries of Australia and many Western European countries). Incorporates all records from the Research Libraries Group (RLG) Union Catalog (RLIN).

Indexes over 5,000 journals and magazines covering all fields and topics, academic and popular, beginning as early as 1971.  Provides full text for articles from over 3,600 of these journals and magazines.  Includes a diversified mix of scholarly journals, trade publications, magazines, and newspapers designed to cover the top 150 core academic subject reference areas extensively.
