Full-text searchable access to the complete backfiles of six major African American community newspapers--Atlanta Daily World (1931-2003), Baltimore Afro-American (1893-1988), Chicago Defender (1909-1975), Los Angeles Sentinel (1934-2005), New York Amsterdam News (1922-1993), and Pittsburgh Courier (1911-2002). Includes original page images digitized from microfilm.

1909 - 2005 (Varies by title) For all titles except The Chicago Defender, one year of additional content is added to the backfile annually.

The present digital collection, that helps chart the development of the concept of 'news' and 'newspapers' and the "free press", totals almost 1 million pages and contains approximately 1,270 titles. Many of the Burney newspapers are well known, but many pamphlets and broadsides also included have remained largely hidden. Newly digitized, all Burney treasures are now fully text-searchable

A complete searchable archive of every issue of The Economist from 1843 to four years ago, with full-color images, multiple search indexes, and exportable financial tables. One of the most widely read magazines in the world, offering timely reporting, concise commentary and comprehensive analysis of the world's political, business, scientific, technological and cultural developments and the connections between them. 1843 - 2006 Includes complete full text of every issue from the first (August 1, 1843) through the last December issue of 4 years ago. (One year of additional content from 4 years ago is added annually.)

Provides indexing for over 8,000 scholarly and general interest journals and newspapers, with full text articles included for over 4,200 of them. Combines the content of Computer Database, Expanded Academic ASAP, General Reference Center Gold, etc.

Indexes over 5,000 journals and magazines covering all fields and topics, academic and popular, beginning as early as 1971.  Provides full text for articles from over 3,600 of these journals and magazines.  Includes a diversified mix of scholarly journals, trade publications, magazines, and newspapers designed to cover the top 150 core academic subject reference areas extensively.

1600-1900

Collection contains full runs of 48 newspapers specially selected by the British Library to best represent nineteenth century Britain. This new collection includes national and regional newspapers, as well as those from both established country or university towns and the new industrial powerhouses of the manufacturing Midlands, as well as Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Special attention was paid to include newspapers that helped lead particular political or social movements such as Reform, Chartism, and Home Rule. The penny papers aimed at the working and clerical classes are also present in the collection.

1800 - 1900

The Pittsburgh Jewish Newspaper Project is composed of The Jewish Criterion (1895-1962), The American Jewish Outlook (1934-1962), and The Jewish Chronicle (1962-Present). This project serves as both an online reference source and as a digitized historical documentation of the Jewish community of Pittsburgh and its outlying areas.
