Clark Library Government Information Collection

The Clark Library Government Information Collection includes statistics, reports, legislation and policy from all levels of government.  Government documents are housed in several different libraries on campus and are findable in Mirlyn and through our Research Guides.

The University of Michigan Library is a depository for publications of the State of Michigan, United States Government, Government of Canada, United Nations, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and European Union. In addition to the depository collections, the Library subscribes to the publications of several international agencies, including the OECD, World Bank, IMF and WTO. Subject coverage of the collection ranges from policy and economics to health and environmental studies.

Depository libraries provide local, no-fee access to government information in a non-partisan environment with professional librarians available to assist users. Congress established the Federal Depository Library Program in 1813 to ensure that government information is accessible to the American public. Since then, depository libraries have safeguarded the public’s right to know by collecting, organizing, preserving and maintaining access to information. The University of Michigan Library was designated a federal depository library in 1884.
