Maria Bonn, Director, has a 1990 PhD in American Literature from SUNY Buffalo where her work was focused on twentieth century American literature. After several years teaching and writing as an itinerant academic, she acquired a Masters of Information Science from the University of Michigan School of Information. Since 1997, she has worked for the University of Michigan Library, first as an Interface Specialist for Digital Library Collections, then in Digital Library Program Development and, most intensively as the head of the Library's scholarly publishing effort. In this latter role, she is responsible both for the production of electronic books and journals and for broadly developing the role of the Library in scholarly communication.
Terri Geitgey is the Digital Projects Librarian, serving as project manager for the ACLS Humanities E-Book project, as well as managing several smaller specialty projects. She helped develop the library's Print-on-Demand reprint program, and is responsible for overseeing its day-to-day operation, as well as investigating new POD opportunities. She is also part of the team that manages the library's new Espresso Book Machine. She received a B.A. in English from the Ohio State University, and an M.L.S. from Indiana University.
Kevin Hawkins is Electronic Publishing Librarian: part librarian, part programmer, part editor, and part project manager. He is responsible for SPO's standardized workflow for the conversion of born-digital scholarly literature (and some literature reformatted from print) to standard file formats (XML and TIFF) for long-term preservation and output in various media. He and has worked at SPO since early 2004, except for a hiatus to accept a Fulbright grant to work with digital libraries in Russia. Kevin has BAs in Russian and linguistics from the University of Maryland and an MS in library and information science from the University of Illinois. For more, see Kevin's website.
Seth Johnson, Programmer/Analyst, is currently working on creating workflow tools and solutions to help streamline many of SPO's processes. He received his BA from Antioch College.
Shana Kimball, Publications Manger, has an MA in English Literature from the University of Michigan. She joined SPO in 2005, where she is responsible for managing the Journal of Electronic Publishing and the digitalculturebooks project, a collaborative imprint with the University of Michigan Press.
Aaron McCollough is the Project Outreach Librarian for the Text Creation Partnership. He serves as a project manager for EEBO-TCP, EVANS-TCP, and ECCO-TCP. He has a PhD in Early Modern English Literature for the University of Michigan and an MFA in creative writing from the Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa. His books of poetry include No Grave Can Hold My Body Down (forthcoming, Ahsahta Press); Little Ease (2006, Ahsahta Press); Double Venus (2002, Salt Publishing); and Welkin (2001, Ahsahta Press).
Jeremy Morse, Electronic Publishing Programmer, has been working in the library field since 1994. Before taking on the role of Electronic Publications Programmer in SPO, he managed the electronic reserves and digital preservation technology efforts at Northwestern University Library. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Radio, Television and Film and has written several of America's Next Great Screenplays. He once worked at the Walt Disney Studio, dialing the phone for one of Hollywood's most powerful executives.
Natsuko Hayashi Nicholls, Research Area Specialist Associate, has been working with SPO since January 2009 and is responsible for conducting a year-long study of the potential for a library-based textbook publishing program. She has a 2004 PhD in Political Science from the University of Michigan. She worked as a researcher at the Institute for Gender Studies at Ochanomizu University, Tokyo, Japan, 2005-2007, where she was involved in translating and editing IGS publications. She also taught undergraduate courses on international relations in Japan.
Devon Persing, Interface Librarian, has a background that combines library science with expertise in web accessibility, usability, and standards. She does site development and design and works with other SPO programmers to update and maintain SPO’s online publications. She has an MS in Information from the University of Michigan School of Information, and a BA in Creative Writing from Susquehanna University, where she edited fiction for campus and national undergraduate creative writing publications. She joined SPO in 2009.
Rebecca Welzenbach, Digital Publishing Projects Manager, contributes to SPO’s text conversion workflows and manages projects such as the The American Influenza Epidemic of 1918: A Digital Encyclopedia and the ingest of the UM Press backfile into the Hathi Trust. She has her BA in English Literature from Illinois Wesleyan University and her MSI from UM’s School of Information. Since she is interested in both the digital and the medieval, it is fitting that she’s also involved with the activities of Digital Medievalist.
