Scope note: This bibliography highlights some of the resources available in the Social Work Library, on campus, and on the web which deal with school social work. This list is not comprehensive. Searching for Items in Mirlyn

Items owned by the Social Work Library which deal with school social work can be found by searching the Mirlyn catalog for "Subject begins with . . ." the phrase school social work. Because resources on school social work may be found under a variety of related subject headings, we provide some suggested headings below, which can be used for searching the catalog. In addition, keyword terms might be found in the Thesaurus of ERIC Descriptors (Z 695.1 .E3 E25) or in the Thesaurus of Sociological Indexing Terms (HM 17 .T5311 1996).

Journals

While the U-M libraries do not subscribe to many journals that deal solely with school social work, there are several journals containing articles which adequately cover the topic. However, to find the best article for one's topic, it is recommended that one use the appropriate indexes/databases first. Try a subject search for school social workers.
Family & Society Studies WorldwideU-M Restricted Database
Use the Advanced Search, typing in school social work in the Index field. Also try keyword searches for school health services, school services, and school age children.
LexisNexis Academic U-M Restricted Database
Search for key terms (e.g. school and social work) in the Guided News Search, for citations in news sources. Try school social workers, drug education, special education, etc. in the Legal Research category, for citations to law, legislation or regulations.
PsycINFO U-M Restricted Database
Try subject search of school truancy, school counseling, or try an advanced search, using social workers in the subject field combined with a keyword search of schools.
Social Work Abstracts U-M Restricted Database
Do a subject search for school social work.
Sociological Abstracts U-M Restricted Database
Have to search for specific issues or concerns. E.g. do a subject search for truancy, dropouts, treatment methods, academic achievement, elementary school students, poverty, learning disabilities, etc.
