9. Primary Sources: Finding Aids

Librarians, archivist and publishers create finding aids to help the public access specialized collections such as archival, microform, or government documents collections. You can learn a lot about social history from the valuable descriptions within online finding aids provided by archivists, as well as the existence and location of primary source material. The Social Work Library web page, Selected Resources for Historical Research on Social Justice Issues, highlights in chronological order, some local primary sources in Michigan.

Click on an appropriate historical era for your topic:
Pre and Post Civil War Era | Progressive Era | Depression Era | Post-WWII Boom | Post-Modern Era

and look for an organization or an individual; click on a "Finding aid online" to learn how a particular person or group influenced social change.
