Scope note: This guide highlights some of the resources available in the Social Work Library, on campus, and on the web which deal with family violence and domestic abuse, including child abuse. Criminal Justice Abstracts (Guide Available) U-M Restricted Database
Indexes major journals, book chapters, and selected government reports in criminology and related disciplines.

ERIC
Access to journal articles and other types of publications in the field of education.  Each reference has either an EJ number (journal article) or an ED number (ERIC "document"). Many are available full-text; nearly all are available on microfiche in the Grad Library.

Directed at professionals in all fields of social work, social science and family practice; includes both scholarly and more popular treatments.

Produced by the U.S. Department of Justice, with summaries of reports, articles, and AV products (U.S. and international) including statistics, research, program descriptions, congressional hearings, and training materials.

Family Violence Prevention Fund
This site provides info on programs, advocacy links, legislative updates, selected statistics, and an excellent section on how to address domestic violence in the workplace.

National Coalition Against Family Violence
This group's mission is to build coalitions, support community resources, such as shelters and safe homes, provide education and technical assistance and encourage policy development and legislation.

National Network to End Domestic Violence
A policy and advocacy group -- the web site includes mission related resources.

Women
 
Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence
Under the auspices of the University of Colorado at Boulder, this center provides a rich array of research related information as well as technical assistance and programmatic evaluation information for nonprofits; also databases of violence related research and literature.
 
Men Stopping Violence
A social change organization dedicated to ending men's violence against women, working locally, nationally, and internationally to "dismantle belief systems, social structures, and institutional practices that oppress women and children and dehumanize men themselves."
 
Minnesota Center Against Violence and Abuse
Resources on domestic violence -- articles, fact sheets, bibliographies, legal and more.
 
Toolkit To End Violence Against Women
Developed by the National Advisory Council on Violence Against Women. Includes chapters on community based services, faith based groups, civil and criminal remedies, Native Women, U.S. military, sports, international issues.
 
Office on Violence Against Women
This U.S. Deparment of Justice office provies information regarding VAWO grants, promising practices and model community programs, federal laws and regulations, DOJ statistical and research publications.
 
Violence Against Women Online Resources
Created to ensure that resources developed with Violence Against Women Act funds and other useful materials are widely available via the web.
Children and Teens
 
American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children
Supports professionals working with children and families affected by abuse and violence; provides education and other sources of information.
 
Child Abuse Prevention Network
Centered at Cornell, this group supports professionals in the field of child abuse and neglect with a variety of tools and resources.
 
Childhelp: Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse
Dedicated to advocacy, prevention, treatment and community outreach for abused, neglected and at-risk children.
 
The Child Welfare Information Gateway
A national resource for professionals on the prevention, identification, and treatment of child abuse and neglect; includes searchable documents, organizations, state statutes databases, statistics, legal issues, etc.
 
National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association
The mission of the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association is to reperesent the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courts.
 
National Council on Child Abuse and Family Violence
Provides intergenerational violence prevention services by bringing together community and national stakeholders, professionals and volunteers to prevent domestic violence (spouse/partner abuse), child abuse and elder abuse.
 
National Teen Dating Abuse Hotline
An organization dedicated to educating teens about abusive relationships; also includes many useful links to other websites.

Other Specific Populations

Alianza National Latina Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence
Part of a national effort to address the domestic violence needs and concerns of under-served populations -- serves "Latina and Latino advocates, practitioners, researchers, community activists, and survivors of domestic violence."

Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence
While this group primarily serves the Boston area, their site contains information of broader interest, including that related to the immigrant community.

Domestic Violence in the Military Resource Guide
From the National Center of State Courts, this site includes many relevant links to military and other documents related to domestic violence in this context.

FaithTrust Institute/Center for the Prevention of Sexual and Domestic Violence
An international, multifaith organization working to end sexual and domestic violence,wide range of services and resources, including training, consultation and educational materials.

Indian Health Service Violence Against Native Women
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services page includes many resources, educational, legislative, health, relevant to violence against native women.

Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community
At the University of Minnesota, this institute is focused on the "unique circumstances of African Americans as they face issues related to domestic violence".

Military Homefront Family Advocacy Program
Provides troops and family members with basic information about the Family Advocacy Program (FAP), child abuse, domestic abuse, and programs and resources designed to help families experiencing abuse.

 

International

International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect
Founded in 1977, is the only multidisciplinary international organization that brings together a worldwide cross-section of committed professionals to work towards the prevention and treatment of child abuse, neglect and exploitation globally. Its primary publication is Child Abuse and Neglect: the International Journal.

National Clearinghouse on Family Violence (Canada)

Legal Aspects

American Bar Association Commission on Domestic Violence
Resources include statute summaries from all 50 states regarding domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, dating violence and trafficking.

National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges
Sections of this group address and provide resources on family violence and child abuse and neglect, among other family law topics.

Minnesota Center Against Violence and Abuse
This clearinghouse provides access to articles, bibliographies, educational/trainingl opportunities, service providers, organizations, events and funding opportunities.

Tribal Court Clearinghouse: Domestic Violence Resources
Provides links to support tribal court personnel, tribal law enforcement personnel, domestic violence victim and social services personnel, and others in handling domestic violence cases and issues.

WomensLaw
An excellent resource for women and teens in abusive relationships and their advocates and attorneys; provides information on locating shelters, identifying relevant state laws and more.

 

Statistics

Lexis Nexis Statistical U-M Restricted Database
Indexes and provides tables of statistics gathered by the U.S. and state governments, international governmental sources, including the U.N., nonprofit and commercial organizations. 

National Data Archive on Child Abuse and Neglect (NDACAN)
Facilitates the secondary analysis of research data relevant to the study of child abuse and neglect.

National Domestic Violence Hotline. Includes hotlines, statistics, information on stalking, cyberstalking, issues related to the military, law enforcement, special populations, the faith community
