Faculty Authors Collection
Collection Development Policy

Purpose: Established in the summer of 2000, the Faculty Authors Collection highlights publications by U-M School of Social Work faculty, provides an enduring record of the School's contributions to social work scholarship, and provides permanent access to these publications for library patrons.

Scope: The Faculty Authors Collection is a collection of monographs authored or edited by current and former School of Social Work Faculty. Material published after the author has left the School of Social Work will not be included in this collection. Authors represented include present governing and adjunct faculty, emeriti faculty and former deans of the School of Social Work. Only publications treating subjects within the field of social work are included.

Included Formats: The collection is comprised solely of print monographs. Journal articles and reprints are not included in the collection. Online publications are not included at this time. Because the Social Work Library does not have necessary technology, microfilm will also not be part of the collection.

Method of Selection: Library staff will make every effort to identify all publications authored or edited by School of Social Work faculty. Staff will also take recommendations from faculty, staff and students. Items not owned by the library will be purchased or transferred from other campus libraries if possible. Certain items in poor physical condition or those requiring special handling will be included in the collection, but will not be physically stored in the Social Work Library. For their protection, these items will be stored at Buhr Storage facility, but can be requested for use at any time.

Gifts/Donations: The Social Work Library will gladly accept any print monographs authored or edited by faculty as gifts.

Weeding, Replacement, Duplication: In general, items in the Faculty Authors Collection will not be removed unless in poor physical condition.
