Social Work Library: Social Work Library Exhibits Information and Policy

Social Work Library Exhibits Information and Policy

Exhibit space in the Social Work Library is available for use by the School of Social Work (SSW) faculty, staff and students and by the Social Work Library (SWL) staff.

Exhibits serve to:

  • complement and/or augment the research, instructional and community involvement activities of the SSW.

  • highlight collections and services of the Social Work Library and the ways in which it supports the activities
of the SSW as well as the broader University community.

Exhibits are expected to provide an objective presentation of the topic and may not be used to promote personal, commercial, religious, or political positions.

Potential exhibit topics include:

  • Highlighting new or notable library resources.
  • Celebrating or observing SWL, SSW, UM, national and international events and observances relevant to the SSW community.
  • Marking SWL, SSW, UM milestones and accomplishments.

Proposing an Exhibit

Any member of the School of Social Work community may propose an exhibit.   Proposals submitted by groups as well as individuals are accepted. Proposals should be directed to the Head of the Social Work Library as far in advance of the proposed exhibit as possible (a minimum of three months in advance is requested) using the SWL Exhibit Request Form.

Social Work Library Exhibit Space

Any or all of the following exhibit spaces in the Social Work Library may be requested for exhibit:

  • Flat glass case (18” x 30” ) which can be locked
  • One (33.5” x 29.5”)  two-sided bulletin/white board
  • Additional easels may be requested from the School of Social Work.  Direct requests for these to ssw.facilities@umich.edu

Exhibitor Responsibilities

The exhibitor's responsibilities are as follows:

  • Submit exhibit application form.
  • Select and prepare materials according to the guidelines.
  • Identify library materials for use in the exhibit; arrange for appropriate processing with SWL staff.
  • Provide accurate descriptive narrative text and/or citations.
  • Install and dismantle the exhibit within an agreed-upon time period.
  • Ensure that the exhibit installation does not block library entrance/exit or emergency exits.
  • Notify the Social Work Library of any proposed changes.
  • Handle any publicity related to the exhibit.

SWL staff are happy to assist as possible with installation and dismantling.

Publicity

Exhibitors are encouraged to publicize their exhibits through SSW and UM channels. A web presence to an exhibit is especially effective in drawing interest.

The SWL can post information about the exhibit on its web page, including a link to an exhibit-specific page developed by the exhibitors.

Security

The protection of exhibit materials is not guaranteed by the Social Work Library, the University Library or the School of Social Work.   All personal property is left at the owner’s risk.
