Social Work Library - Individual Research Consultation Service
Scope note: This page explains the research consultation service offered by Social Work Library staff. The Social Work Library offers students, staff and faculty the opportunity to schedule individual research consultations. This free service allows you the opportunity to receive individualized instruction and assistance from a librarian. An appointment-based consultation is intended for in-depth analysis of your research problem and in-depth instruction about appropriate information resources. Librarians can consult with you on: services available throughout the U-M library system; searching the library's catalog and online resources; creating effective research strategies; identifying and evaluating information resources, etc. Librarians are also available to consult with instructors on integrating information resources into specific courses and on designing effective course assignments. While the Social Work Library staff provide research assistance from the Service Desk during most normal business hours (see Need Help? for the current term's reference service hours), an appointment made in advance guarantees a focused, customized interaction with a librarian. In the absence of an appointment, the library staff at the Service Desk will do their best to assist you. This individualized consultation service is available by appointment only. Most appointments are scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, evening or weekend appointments can be discussed and arranged with librarians. Typically, a consultation takes approximately one hour, but we will spend more time with you if needed. To request an appointment, fill out the form below. A librarian will contact you within two business days to set up an appointment. If you need assistance when the Social Work Library is not open, please contact the Information Center at the Graduate Library at 734/764-9373. If you have questions about appointments with Social Work Library staff not answered here, please contact social.work.library@umich.edu or call 734/764-5169.
