UGL Services for Patrons with Disabilities
James Edward Knox Center Adaptive Technology Computing Site (ATCS)
This facility (room 1128) provides a variety of adaptive hardware and software at nine workstations to meet the needs of individuals with temporary or ongoing physical, visual, or learning impairments. The phone number for the ATCS is (734) 647-6437.
Staff Assistance
UGL Staff are available at these locations to provide assistance to all patrons:
• The Circulation Desk in the lobby on the first floor; phone number (734) 764-7490
• The Reference Desk inside the glass doors in the main area of the first floor; phone number (734) 763-4141
Circulation staff will assist patrons with disabilities who need assistance in retrieving items from the stacks. Ask at the Circulation Desk for service.
HathiTrust
Students, faculty, and staff cannot to use print books have access to full-text ebooks in the HathiTrust Digital Library. To have access to this service, students, faculty, and staff must provide Services for Students with Disabilities documentation of their disability. Building Entrances
The door facing West on the Northwest entrance to the Shapiro Library Building is at ground level and opens automatically.
Elevators
Elevators are located in the main lobby of the UGL, across from Bert's Cafe.
Computers
Wheelchair-accessible computers are located in the main study area of the first floor, just through the glass doors from the lobby. The glass door nearest the Circulation Desk has an automatic opening mechanism. Reference Staff are available to assist users as needed in accessing these computers.

Restrooms
There are wheelchair-accessible restrooms on all floors of the Shapiro Library Building.
Group Study Rooms
The group study rooms on the second floor of the Shapiro Library Building are wheelchair-accessible.
Handicapped Parking Areas
Handicapped-designated parking spaces are located in the driveway area to the west of the Shapiro Library Building. These spaces are available for UM Staff during normal business hours during weekdays, and use of them requires both a handicapped-parking permit and a UM parking permit. These spaces are available to anyone with a handicapped-parking permit after 5pm during the week and on weekends.
