UGL Services for Patrons with Disabilities
Staff Assistance
UGL Staff are available at these locations to provide assistance to all patrons:
• The Circulation Desk in the lobby on the first floor; phone number (734) 764-7490
• The Reference Desk inside the glass doors in the main area of the first floor; phone number (734) 763-4141
Circulation staff will assist patrons with disabilities who need assistance in retrieving items from the stacks. Ask at the Circulation Desk for service.
Building Entrances
The door facing West on the Northwest entrance to the Shapiro Library Building is at ground level and opens automatically.
Elevators
Elevators are located in the main lobby of the UGL, across from the student lounge.
Computers
Wheelchair-accessible computers are located in the main study area of the first floor, just through the glass doors from the lobby. The glass door nearest the Circulation Desk has an automatic opening mechanism. Reference Staff are available to assist users as needed in accessing these computers.
Also, the Adaptive Technology Computing Site (ATCS), which provides a variety of adaptive hardware and software to meet users' needs, is located on the first floor of the Shapiro Undergraduate Library. More info on the ATCS is available below.
Adaptive Technology Computing Site (ATCS)
This facility, which provides a variety of adaptive hardware and software and support services in using them, is located in Room 1128 on the first floor of the UGL. The phone number for the ATCS is (734) 647-6437; you can get additional about the site and its services here.
Restrooms
There are wheelchair-accessible restrooms on all floors of the Shapiro Library Building.
Group Study Rooms
The group study rooms on the second floor of the Shapiro Library Building are wheelchair-accessible.
Handicapped Parking Areas
Handicapped-designated parking spaces are located in the driveway area to the west of the Shapiro Library Building. These spaces are available for UM Staff during normal business hours during weekdays, and use of them requires both a handicapped-parking permit and a UM parking permit. These spaces are available to anyone with a handicapped-parking permit after 5pm during the week and on weekends.
647-FAST
By arrangement with the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities, patrons with disabilities may use the Library's 647-FAST pull and copy service for a nominal photocopying fee.
