Reference Services

Science Reference Desk

The Shapiro Science Library reference desk has closed as of September 1, 2011. For in-person assistance with science reference questions, ask at the Undergraduate Library reference desk on the first floor of Shapiro Library or at the Graduate Library reference desk on the second floor of the Hatcher Graduate Library, or contact the appropriate science librarian. Help is also available via phone, email, and instant messaging through the Ask A Librarian reference service.

Science Research Consultations

We offer research consultations to individuals or small groups, on a drop-in basis or by appointment. Consultations can be anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the question. To set up an appointment, email sciencelibrary@umich.edu with a brief description of your research topic and scheduling requirements, or contact the Science Librarian whose subject area most closely matches your topic.

Reference questions may always be sent via e-mail to our Subject Librarians, who are also available by appointment for extended reference consultations as described above.

Science Print Reference collection

Our print Science Reference Collection is located on the third floor of Shapiro Library, opposite the main stairs. These materials are for use in the library only; they do not circulate. However, some of these materials are available online. Science librarians can help you select and use the reference sources best suited to your project.
