Using Electronic Resources

From Search Tools, you can select individual databases or view lists by subject categories.

All of these databases allow you to search for articles by author, topic or keyword. Some also offer complex and specialized searching. For example, Beilstein and SciFinder Scholar also let you search by chemical structure or formula, and the Web of Science (via ISI Web of Knowledge), supports cited reference searching. The databases have online help available; look for it within each individual database. In addition, the Science Library has created user guides for many of them, listed in the Science Library Guides page.

To see which databases best cover your subject, look at the Subjects sections of the Science Library homepage.

To learn more about using these databases to find journal articles, see the Journals section of this tutorial.
