This is a list of resources for library research in the Resource Policy and Behavior program of the School of Natural Resources and Environment. All of the web-based databases, unless otherwise noted, are restricted to members of the University of Michigan community.

RESOURCES FOR MULTI-DISCIPLINARY RESEARCH

  • Web of Science Includes Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Science Citation Index, and Social Sciences Citation Index. To search, click on the link that says ISI Web of Science
    Search Tip: Use an asterisk (*) to truncate, and a question mark (?) as a wildcard replacement for one character. Phrases are assumed if there are no Boolean operators.
  • Current Contents Connect (via ISI Web of Knowledge) Setup weekly e-mail alerts of new journal articles on specific topics or from specific journals.
  • Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe A collection of full-text articles, images not included, from a wide collection of news, business, legal, and reference information, including hundreds of U.S. and foreign newspapers, legal and business publications, wire services, broadcast media transcripts, and trade/news magazines. Coverage varies depending on the publication, some go back to 1980.
    Search Tips Truncate using an exclamation point (!); replace single letters with an asterisk (*). Search on phrases by enclosing in parentheses (xxxx), or by connecting the elements with a w/n. Examples: (landscape architect!) or landscape w/1 architect!.

RESOURCES FOR POLICY AND BEHAVIOR RESEARCH

  • Public Affairs Information Service (PAIS)
    Index of books, journal articles, government documents, policy and the reports of public and private organizations, related to public issues and the making and evaluation of public policy on a national and international level. Coverage is from 1972 to present.Search Tips Truncate using a plus sign to represent a single letter (+) and an asterisk (*) to represent more than one letter.
  • Lexis-Nexis Congressional Universe
    Congressional Universe is a web-based indexing and abstracting service for Congressional committee publications, including hearings (full-text since 1988), committee prints, reports, documents, and public laws since 1970. Limited to authorized UM users through validated sign-on. Search Tips Truncate using an exclamation point (!); replace single letters with an asterisk (*). Search on phrases by enclosing in parentheses (xxxx), or by connecting the elements with a w/n. Examples: (environment!) or pollution w/1 environment! .
  • Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO)
    Full text of conference proceedings, think tank articles, some journals, links to the CIA factbook and other sources of international information, and working papers on international affairs from 1995 to present. Limited to UM network.
  • National Journal Group's Policy Central
    Resource for U.S. politics, government and public policy, which includes online access to the National Journal and the Almanac of American Politics; databases on political and issue ads and public policy polls; and e-mail alerting services. Best place to go to find articles from the National Journal and to sign up for e-mail alerts.
  • CQ Redsearcher
    Explores issues in the news in depth. Topics range from social and teen issues to environment, health, education and science and technology. Each report is written by a journalist with comments from experts, lawmakers, and citizens on all sides of an issue.
  • Congressional Research Service Reports at the National Library for the Environment
    The Congressional Research Service (CRS) prepares reports for the U.S. Congress. CRS documents are prepared for Congress and are not distributed to the public. As a service to taxpayers, various legislators or organizations make CRS reports more widely available. This site provides access to more than 1200 CRS reports on environmental issues.

  • Bi-weekly messages with headlines from national and international sources about environmental issues.
    E&E Publishing Alerts
  • Publishes three newsletters on environmental and energy issues. To receive e-mail alerts, just click on the button next to the publications you are interested in and fill out the form. The account access is by IP addresses (the UM library is a subscriber). The publications that are available are: Greenwire, Environment & Energy Daily, and Land Letter.
