Spatial and Numeric Data Services

New! Come visit us in the Spatial Analysis Lab (SAL) in the TCAUP building, Monday through Thursday, from 1 to 5.

Stay tuned for the conversion of our old site to this new format!

We support the use of spatial data, numeric data, and statistics in research and teaching by the University of Michigan community.

For example, for numeric data we:

Assist in locating and acquiring data sets, especially social science data sets

Assist in using statistical software for data analysis

Ensure data sets of interest to the UM community are cataloged in MIRLYN

For spatial data, we:

Assist in locating and acquiring digital spatial data sets

Assist in using geographic information systems (GIS) software

Maintain an online searchable catalog of digital spatial data, whose content focuses on data of potential interest to the UM community (see this page for background information)

Acquire, store, and provide access to digital spatial data sets in a repository, accessible via the online catalog

We also provide two labs in which you can do work with spatial and numeric data.
