What's New in Michigan Papyrology

January 20, 2004 - Now anyone interested in the conservation of papyrus can find out more about the subject through the online APIS Guidelines. Already this page has recieved much praise for its author, U-M conservator Leyla Lau-Lamb.

June 30, 2004 - There is a new exhibit online, entitled Writing in Graeco-Roman Egypt. Check it out to learn about the various languages and writing materials used in ancient Egypt. This exhibit is good for younger students interested in classics, and for anyone with an interest in the ancient world.

May 12, 2004 - Dr. Robert Caldwell and Dr. Ludwig Koenen have left for Amman, Jordan, to finish their work on a roll from the carbonized Petra papyri. We wish them a safe voyage and much success!

May 5, 2004 - Traianos has left for his extensive summer travels to Greece, Crete, Jordan, the Netherlands, and Russia. Enjoy the trip and fly safe!

May 3, 2004 - The new exhibit, Papyrus Making 101 is now online! It has great pictures taken by Leyla, our conservator, which show the entire papyrus-making process from start to finish, step-by-step. Check it out!

April 30, 2004 - Our new papyrologist, Magdy Aly, has finally arrived from Egypt. He will be working on the APIS project.

April 5, 2004 - As you can see, we've been redesigning our website. There are all kinds of great new things to check out!
