Description
Firmin Didot of Paris, France designed an innovative new multi-color map printing process in 1823. The color layers were printed on at a time, rather than painted after the map had been printed. This map is an excellent example of this process as well as an example of one of the earliest map printing techniques, woodblocks, where the image was carved directly into the wood, then inked and printed. The map can be found here.
