Social Work Library - Collection Information

The Social Work Library is a unit of the University of Michigan University Library system, a network of 20 individual library locations which hold a total of approximately seven million items. The collections located in the affiliated libraries are accessible to students, faculty and staff members of the University of Michigan. The collections are represented in the library catalog, Mirlyn.

The Social Work Library has an onsite collection of over 45,000 volumes and about 160 subscriptions to journals and other periodicals. The print materials housed in the Social Work Library are primarily in the fields of social work practice and administration, social work education, social welfare services and policy, child welfare, and gerontology, and related subjects. The collections of other campus libraries supplement the collections found in the Social Work Library. Researchers in the field of social work should also consider the collections in the Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library, the Taubman Medical Library, the Documents Center, and Public Health Library & Informatics as resources for research materials. The book collection in the Social Work Library is arranged by Library of Congress call number (e.g. RC 569 .P341 1998), and the Periodicals Collection is arranged by journal title [see map.] The reference collection contains non-circulating encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, guides to subjects, manuals, current statistical compilations, etc. in related fields, and is located near the Service Desk. Other special collections include School of Social Work dissertations and books authored by School of Social Work faculty (Faculty Authors Collection).
