Literature Search Services

Taubman Health Sciences Library

Literature searches may be requested from the Information Services Department of the Taubman Health Sciences Library. Searches are formulated and executed by librarians who are experienced in accessing different systems and a wide variety of databases. This service is available to UM faculty, students and staff, as well as to area health professionals.

When should you request a literature search?

  • When you need to be comprehensive.
UM-MEDSEARCH and other databases available for users cover only a portion of the biomedical literature. There are hundreds of databases, which are not widely available to the general public, that librarians can search. See the bottom of this page for a partial listing of these databases.

  • When your time is needed elsewhere.
Some people do not wish to devote their time to doing their own literature searching.

  • When you are having trouble with your search.
Perhaps you are not locating specific concepts or terminology or you are not finding information you believe is available. Librarians are experts at literature searching and can use more powerful search interfaces than those available for public access.
