New Book from SMTD ProfessorFebruary 23, 2012 People SMTD professor Jerald Schwiebert (Theatre) has just published a book titled Physical Expression and the Performing Artist: Moving Beyond the Plateau (PN 2071 .M6 S39 2011). In it Schwiebert draws on yoga, tai chi, and Pilates, as well as the teachings of Stanislavski, Feldenkrais, Alexander, and others to offer "an organized approach to movement for actors, conductors, dancers, singers, musicians -- for performers of any kind." |

MPublishing and OHP release six open access books in critical theoryDecember 21, 2011 News Open Humanities Press (OHP) and MPublishing are pleased to announce the publication of six open access books on critical theory, continental philosophy and cultural studies. Each title will be freely available as full-text HTML, as well as in paperback editions, and are being released on a rolling publication schedule beginning 15 December. In a unique collaboration, the books are being jointly released by OHP, an international publishing collective run by scholars, and MPublishing, the library-based publishing enterprise at the University of Michigan. |
U-M responds to Authors Guild lawsuitDecember 9, 2011 News On December 2, lawyers representing the University of Michigan and other defendants responded to the Authors Guild lawsuit that seeks to curtail the University’s digitization efforts and impound the in-copyright digital volumes held by the defendants in the HathiTrust Digital Library, which is administered by the University and comprises more than sixty institutional participants and almost ten million volumes. |

The first is IMSLP -- this website provides access to scanned copies of thousands of public-domain musical works. In recognition of the extraordinary academic achievements of our undergraduate students, the Shapiro Undergraduate Library announces the 2nd Annual MLibrary Undergraduate Student Research Award for excellence in library research conducted in support of an undergraduate student project. Students who have written or participated in a research paper/project from Spring 2011-Winter 2012 term are encouraged to submit their work for consideration.
