Dentistry Library Hosts Exhibit

123 scrub graphicThe Dentistry Library of the University of Michigan University Library is hosting an exhibit of quotations entitled “Mouth, Teeth, & Thumbs: Dentists and the Mouth in Aphorisms, Maxims, One-Liners, Proverbs, Quotations, and Taglines.”

While the exhibit highlights materials from the early 1900s, the exhibit guide and accompanying display of proverbs include examples stretching as far back as Hippocrates and as obviously new as one-liners about dentists and Star Trek (“Dentist of Borg: Assimilation will only hurt for a moment”). The proverbs and quotations selected are designed to represent a diversity of attitudes and perceptions about dentistry and the mouth, ranging from proverbs of tribal Africa through Victorian literature, limericks, and modern poetry to quotes from contemporary rock stars.

The exhibit will be available from September 3 through December 15, 2002. The Dentistry Library is open Monday–Thursday 8 a.m.–11 p.m., Friday 8 a.m.–5:30 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m.–5 p.m., and Sunday noon–10 p.m. The Dentistry Library is located at 1100 Dental Building, 1011 N. University. Directions to the Dentistry Library are available on their Web site: www.lib.umich.edu/dentlib/
