Seminar Room Guidelines
The Music Library’s Glenn Watkins Seminar Room is open for use on a reserve basis to School of Music, Theatre & Dance faculty, staff, and students. Primarily intended for library-related instructional purposes, the facility is also available to groups (including seminars) that plan to make extensive use of Music Library materials. When questions or conflicts of scheduling arise, such uses will be given priority.
The seminar room operates independently of the SoMTD scheduling system and is not generally considered to be a regular classroom. Instructors of regular SoMTD courses may, however, inquire about occasional or even semester-long use of the space.
We recognize the following uses:
Priority 1: Every effort will be made to accommodate the following requests:
- Library-related instructional uses
- Single sessions or regular (semester-long) SoMTD courses making extensive use of Music Library materials
- SoMTD graduate-level seminars
Priority 2: The following uses will be accommodated, but may need to yield to the uses outlined above:
- Examinations
- SoMTD faculty and staff meetings
Priority 3: The following may be accommodated as scheduling allows or on a first-come, first-served basis, with a daily two-hour limit:
- Group study by SoMTD students, especially for exams or collaborative projects
The seminar room is not available for individual study, applied lessons, rehearsals, practicing, or to groups not associated with the School of Music, Theatre & Dance.
The room seats eight and is fully equipped with audiovisual playback, 5.1 Surround Sound, a 46-inch LCD display, and wireless Internet connectivity.
Scheduling requests may be made in person at the library, via phone (734-764-2512) or by sending requests to: music.circ@umich.edu.
