About Copyright

MITS is required by U.S. copyright law to pay royalties when making copies of journal articles and other documents.

We pay copyright royalties through the Transactional Reporting Service of the Copyright Clearance Center, or through direct arrangements with the copyright holders. All royalties are set by the copyright holder. There is no "typical" royalty amount; costs can range from $3.00 to $45.00 or more per article. The average royalty amount of all the articles MITS supplies is $23.00. If the royalty for a single article exceeds $50.00, we will contact you for authorization first.

The copyright royalty paid on your request covers distribution to you of one copy. If you make and distribute further copies of the document, it is your responsibility to follow copyright law.

To obtain an estimate of copyright royalties for specific documents prior to submitting your request, please contact our office.
