Why is there a copyright fee?
Copyright fees are set by the copyright holder of a book or journal, and MITS must pay fees for permission to deliver an article or book chapter to you. The fees can vary quite a bit, from $3.00 to as high as $55.00 or even higher, depending on the publisher and sometimes by the number of pages.
Can I set a maximum cost limit?
Yes, you can. Please include a note with your request specifying a maximum cost or instructing us to provide a cost quote before filling the request. We will cancel the request if the total cost exceeds your limit.
How fast can I get it?
Delivery of a document or shipment of a book loan typically takes a day or two, but can take longer in certain situations. Various levels of Rush service -- as quick as 1 Hour -- are available for an additional fee. We ask that you call us at (734) 763-5060 when you are placing a request for 4 Hour or 1 Hour Rush.

If MITS loans me a book, how long do I get to use it?
For books from our collection at the University of Michigan the loan period is six weeks, starting from the date we ship the book. For books coming from a library other than the University of Michigan, the loan period will vary depending on the policies of the lending library. The paper band attached to the book will show the due date. Most loans can be renewed.
How do I renew a book?
Send an email to us at email@example.com. Or call us at (734) 763-5060. Please request a renewal before the due date.
How do I return a book?
If your institution participates in our return mailer program, you will have received a pre-addressed, prepaid FedEx return mailer with your book. Simply package the book inside the return envelope and drop it off at any FedEx shipping location.
To return a book without a return mailer, package the book carefully, in a padded envelope or box, and send it to MITS, at the address printed on the paper band attached to the book. Use a trackable courier service, such as FedEx, UPS, or USPS Priority. If you misplaced a return mailer or have any other questions, send an email to us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Or call us at (734) 763-5060.
How can I cancel a request?
We will do our best to accommodate the cancellation of your Standard request. The amount of processing done already will affect whether it may be cancelled. Please call if you wish to cancel a Standard request at (734) 763-5060.
Rush requests usually cannot be cancelled since our processing begins soon after receipt. Please call if you wish to cancel a Rush at (734) 763-5060.
What happens if I lose my book?
If you lose a book, you will be charged a $100.00 processing fee in addition to the replacement cost of the book. To avoid lost book charges, please return books on time using a trackable shipping method such as FedEx or UPS.
Why is there a $75 hold on my credit card?
The hold is a standard merchant practice to ensure a business that enough funds are available in a credit-card customer's account to cover a transaction. The hold is a flat figure set in advance, and ours is $75 in order to cover the various kinds of transactions we handle. The $75 amount is NOT an actual debit, and it is removed after your document is delivered, or after a request has been cancelled.
How do I become a corporate customer?

Can you resend an article?
