LIT Jobs

The UM Library Information Technology division occasionally has a number of positions open in a variety of areas of work. Some typical positions include desktop support technicians, programmers (e.g., in DLPS, Library Systems, and Web Systems), and a variety of types of digitization specialists. We provide some representative job postings below, and appreciate receiving resumes even when relevant positions are not open. Currently open LIT positions are also listed below.   • Desktop Support Technicians - Assist in the planning, operation and maintenance of the hardware and software for stand-alone and networked computer systems. Coordinate the implementation of system hardware, software, network attachment and other operational needs. Maintain, monitor and recommend physical security for system components, including location, cabling, and access control. Assist in maintaining the proper configuration of attached peripherals. Coordinate the installation of systems software. Load, test and implement new systems applications and write and revise documentation describing features, capabilities and procedures of the systems. Assist in developing and maintaining systems to deploy public and staff computers relative to software distribution, patches and upgrades and security measures. Assist in the instruction users on correct procedures for self diagnosis, reporting of problems; log calls, progress and resolutions in a call-tracking information system. Assist in providing appropriate systems documentation and technical advice to support staff and users.
  • Programmers - design and develop Library systems for the Digital Library and the Library's web sites. Experience with Perl, CGI, database technologies such as MySQL, SGML/XML, Unix, troubleshooting on a TCP/IP network, current web development standards are some of the qualifications for these positions.
