The meeting was called to order by Forum Chair Martin Knott at 9:05 a.m.
Welcome
Martin welcomed everyone to Librarians' Forum and reminded attendees of the memorial service for Tom Burnett to be held later that day.
Introductions
Jidong Yang (Asia Library) introduced Brian Vivier, the new Coordinator of Public and Information Services in the Asia Library.
Announcements
From the floor:
- Donna Hayward said that the interest survey for SkillShare would in this Friday's newsletter.
- Shevon Desai noted the FutureLibCon conversation to be held on Thursday, 19 November, in the Hatcher Gallery.
- Martin Knott reminded the audience of the next Forum Coffee Break on Friday, 20 November, at Beansters in the Michigan League.
Updates from Forum Board
The Board will be reviewing the recommendations of last spring's Salary report committee. A call for the next committee is forthcoming; look in the Library Newsletter for details. Prospective members will serve a 2 or 3 year term.
The travel/hosting policy group (several librarians, Bob Campe, and HR) will begin looking at the current travel/hosting policy and exploring possible funding models for travel.
The Promotion Criteria Task Force has been charged and is beginning its review of the current promotion criteria for librarians. The Task Force will look at other institutions and talk with various constituencies in the library before reporting back to PRC, Forum Board, and LDG. Recommendations are due in Febuary.
The December Forum will focus on the DMC. January's Forum will focus on the University Press.
Open Access
Melissa Levine, Jim Ottaviani, Bryan Skib, and Catherine Soehner made a presentation and led a discussion on issues surrounding open access in the academic environment. Slides from the presentation are available to staff members at https://staff.lib.umich.edu/content/open-access-presentation.
