Write-N-Cite is asking me for a group code. What do I enter?
If you are using Write-N-Cite off campus, you will be prompted to enter a group code in order to access your RefWorks account. The UM implementation of RefWorks does not use a group code. Instead, the library proxy server is used for remote access to RefWorks and all library electronic resources. RefWorks has developed a version of Write-N-Cite that is compatible with the proxy server. Follow the instructions below to download and install Write-N-Cite.
- If you haven't already done so, you'll need to download the latest version of Write-n-Cite. This is available under the Tools menu once you've logged in to RefWorks.
- You will need to configure Write-N-Cite with the proxy server. Launch Write-n-Cite, then find the Preferences tool, then the Proxy tab.
- Enter the following URL as the Proxy Server URL: http://proxy.lib.umich.edu/login?url=https://www.refworks.com/Refworks/?WNC=true
- Restart Write-N-Cite. The library authentication screen will appear. After authenticating, you will be able to access your RefWorks account through Write-N-Cite.
An option to Write-N-Cite is One Line/Cite View, described in Managing your citations with RefWorks (workshop pdf).
