Can I move my EndNote, ProCite, or Reference Manager citations to RefWorks?
Yes. To export records from EndNote:
- In EndNote, go to the the Edit menu, select Output Styles and Open Style Manger. Click in the RefMan (RIS) Export checkbox. Close the Style Manager, go back to Edit, Output Styles, and select RefMan (RIS) Export from the pulldown menu.
- Under the Reference menu select Show Selected (or Show All if you wish to export the entire database).
- Highlight the references you want to export.
- Under the File menu select Export.
- In the dialog box that appears, name your file and navigate to a location where you want to save your text file. Select Text as your Save As type and click Save.
- Go to RefWorks and select the Import button.
- In the Import Filter/Data Source pulldown menu, select Desktop Biblio. Mgt. Software. In the Database menu, select EndNote. Use the Browse button to navigate to the text file you saved from EndNote and select it.
- Click on Import.
To export records from Reference Manager:
- In Reference Manager, select the references you want to export.
- In the References menu select Export.
- Use the default file name or create a new file for exporting references. Select the RIS format and the appropriate References Option.
- Select Export.
- Go to RefWorks and select the Import button.
- In the Import Filter/Data Source pulldown menu, select Desktop Biblio. Mgt. Software. In the Database menu, select Reference Manager. Use the Browse button to navigate to the text file you saved from Reference Manager and select it.
- Click on Import.
To export records from ProCite:
To import records into RefWorks from ProCite it is necessary to download the RIS.pos filter. You will use this to export your data in the RIS format. After obtaining the filter, place it in ProCite's Styles folder. This folder's default location is C:/Program Files/Procite5/Styles.
- In ProCite select Print Bibliography from the File menu.
- Select the RIS output style, including all the fields you wish to export.
- Select Save, with Text Only as your file type.
- Open your RefWorks database.
- Click on Import and select Desktop Biblio. Mgt. Software as your Import Filter
- Select ProCite as your Database. Use the Browse button to navigate to the text file you saved from Reference Manager and select it.
- Click on Import.
