Steps in this exercise:

Using the Magic Wand

  • Open the file called greatlakes.gif.

  • Select the magic wand tool wand tool to reveal its properties. Enter a Tolerance of 32.

  • Select the state of Michigan with your magic wand (at least the lower peninsula).

  • Once you have selected this object, select Edit, Copy (or Control+C on a PC or Command+C on a Mac).

  • Open canoerace.jpg.

  • In the Layers palette side-menu, choose New Layer.

    • new layer

  • Paste (Edit, Paste or Control V on a PC and Command V on a Mac) the selected image from the GIF image into the new layer on the JPEG image.
