The Knowledge Navigation Center (KNC) has an excellent opportunity
for you to sharpen your technical knowledge, gain further insight
into human needs regarding technology, and get experience in teaching
and using multimedia.
We are centrally located on the 2nd floor of the Harlan Hatcher Graduate
Library. We are looking for technologically knowledgeable, service-oriented
students to join the KNC staff. Some training is available for students
with required qualifications (see below).
Where: Knowledge Navigation Center, 2nd floor Grad Library
Hours: 5 - 15 hours per week (between 10 am and 7pm, M-F)
Pay: $10.95 per hour

Responsibilities:
- assist and instruct patrons in the use of KNC resources
- work closely and cooperatively with other KNC staff members to solve
technical problems
- may include some opportunities to lead group instruction and/or workshops
and to develop instructional materials, including training manuals and
information guides
Required Qualifications:
- knowledge of HTML authoring
- basic knowledge of digital imaging and Adobe Photoshop
- knowledge of Macintosh and Windows operating systems
- experience navigating in the UM computing environment
- desire to assist patrons at a variety of skill levels with design
and experimentation in various software packages
- excellent public service attitude
Optional Qualifications:
- knowledge of file storage issues in a cross-platform environment
- knowledge of OCR software packages (OmniPage), bibliographic
management software (EndNote, Refworks), Adobe InDesign, Macromedia Flash and/or
Adobe Illustrator
- experience instructing people in the use of multimedia
