11 V (110), III (116) ; almost exclusively quinions ; catchwords present ; foliation in pencil, Western numerals ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (skips two pages between pp.15-16).

Layout:

Written in 21 lines per page ; frame-ruled.

Script:

Naskh ; clear Egyptian hand in a medium line ; serifless with very slight effect of tilt to the left, pointing in distinct dots, alif maqṣūrah often pointed as yāʼ, the lām alif al-warrāqīyah used extensively, partially vocalized.

Decoration:

Keywords and section headings rubricated ; textual dividers in the form of inverted commas in red.

Support:

European laid paper of at least two types ; one type with 8 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 29 mm. apart (horizontal), and anchor in circle watermark with leaf above (see pp.3-4, 88-89, etc., roughly 70 mm. tall, compare no.125, etc. in Nikolaev, Watermarks of the Ottoman Empire, v.1) ; another type with 8 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 25-27 mm. apart and anchor in circle watermark with trevoil above (60 mm. tall, see pp.28-29) ; countermarks include "Vd" (p.48) and "PS" (p.188) ; severe pest damage.

Binding:

Pasteboards covered in dark red-brown leather ; Type II binding (with flap, now lost) ; board linings in pink-tinted laid paper ; upper and lower covers carry blind-stamped mandorla (filled with vegetal composition reminiscent of Déroche. class. OAi2) and border in a series of blind rules ; sewn in cream thread, two stations, mainly broken, nearly all bifolia loose ; overall in poor condition with flap lost, significant pest damage, some abrasion, lifting and losses of leather, upper cover detaching, etc. ; housed in box for protection.

Accompanying Materials:

Slip with notes in hand of Jameson [?] in pencil and red ink "MAKDISI – II | Laṭāʼif al-Matn | Keep this slip with book. 116 leaves | 21 1/2 cm."
