Fine copy of ʻAbd al-Raʼūf Ibn al-Munāwī's (d.1621) revision of his commentary Fatḥ al-Raʼūf al-mujīb on Unmūdhaj al-labīb fī khaṣāʼiṣ al-ḥabīb (also known as al-Khaṣāʼṣ al-ṣughrá), al-Suyūṭī's (d.1505) abridgment of his own Kifāyat al-labīb fī khaṣāʼiṣ al-ḥabīb (known as al-Khaṣāʼiṣ al-kubrá) on the virtues and distinctive attributes of the Prophet.

"الحمد لله الذي تفضل بارسال الرسل لبيان المعاش والمعاد ... وبعد فيقول العبد الضعيف الراجي عفو الرب الرؤوف اللطيف محمد المدعو عبد الرؤوف ابن المناوي الحدادي ... اني شرحت فيما مضى كتاب انوذج اللبيب في خصائص الحبيب للحافظ الكبير الامام الشهير الجلال السيوطي ... شرحا اقتصرت فيه على حل الفاظه وايراد الدليل ... فاطلع عليه بعض من غلب عليه داء الحسد وحب التغليط واللدد وقال ان الشرح المذكور لم يكشف النقاب عن اسرار الكتاب ... فلما بلغني ما ذكره هذا الحاسد المتحامل والغبي الجاهل بادرت للشروع في هذا الشرح على عجل ... وهو في الحقيقة كالشرح للاول ... وسميته توضيح فتح الرؤوف المجيب بشرح انموذج اللبيب ..."

i, V (10), V+1 (21), 23 V(251), IV+2 (261), 3 V(291), II (295), i ; chiefly quinions ; catchwords present (occasionally added in pink, see p.40, 88, etc.) ; quire numbering in the form of full words, though seemingly intentionally obscured by loss of a small portion of the upper outer corner of the opening recto of nearly every quire ; pagination in blue ink, Hindu-Arabic numerals (begins with incipit page) ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (skips two pages between pp.553-554).

Layout:

Written in 23 lines per page ; frame-ruled.

Script:

Naskh ; clear Egyptian hand in a medium to bold line ; mainly serifless with effect of slight inclination to the left or right (varies from one to the other), curvilinear descenders, open and closed counters, pointing in distinct dots, alif maqṣūrah usually pointed as yāʼ, kāf mashqūqah preferred (even final kāf), final nūn quite round with dot set deep in bowl.

Decoration:

Keywords and headings rubricated ; textual dividers in the form of inverted commas (mainly in red).

Support:

European laid paper with 10 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 25-26 mm. apart (horizontal), crown-star-crescent watermark (see p.10, 11, 72, 73, etc.), and "AD" countermark (see p.454), medium cream in color, sturdy though fairly crisp, well-burnished to glossy ; staining.

Binding:

Boards covered in textured blue cloth with blue leather over spine (quarter binding) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a floral vegetal pattern in pink and green ; spine gold-stamped with title and decorative accents over raised bands "شرح انموذج اللبيب" ; resewn in white thread, eight stations ; overall in fairly good condition.

On upper pastedown label with ex libris of James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974), stamped with inventory numbers, "Ex Libris | J. Heyworth-Dunne | D. Lit. (London) | No. 7784" ; partially effaced waqf statement on 'title page' (p.1) in name of Muḥammad Bayyūmī ( محمد بيومي ) ; brief waqf statement "وقف لله تعالى" repeated throughout volume (opening recto of every quire) though mainly effaced ; ownership statement and circular seal impression only partially visible on 'title page' (p.1) ; UM Library inscription on p.3 "Dunning | Heyworth-Dunne | 6-13-51 | 71955" ; marginal glosses (some in decorative shapes, see p.116, 117, 119, etc.).
