Careful copy of the commentary by Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī Bakr al-Shīrāzī (fl.1407) on al-Būṣīrī's (d.1296?) celebrated poem in praise of the Prophet, al-Kawākib al-durrīyah fī madḥ khayr al-barīyah, widely known as al-Burdah.

Written in 23 lines per page.


Naskh ; compact Caucasian (Azeri) [?] hand ; virtually serifless with slight effect of tilt to left and of words descending to baseline, mainly closed counters, pointing in distinct dots, descenders mainly curvilinear.


Keywords, abbreviations (sigla), and vocalization (for the verses being commented upon) rubricated.


non-European laid paper with 4-5 laid lines per cm. (vertical) and single chain lines (horizontal) spaced around 90 mm. apart ; quite cloudy formation, sturdy and well-burnished ; some staining and tide lines ; some repairs.


Pasteboards covered in marbled paper (mainly in blue, yellow and red) with brown leather over spine, fore edge flap, and edges/turn-ins (framed binding) ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in olive green paper ; sewn in blue thread, two stations ; overall in fair condition with some abrasion, staining, lifting and losses of leather at board edges and fore edge flap, etc.

Traces of effaced former owners' marks on upper board lining and 'title page' (p.1), including several statements and two oval seal impressions ; on verso of final leaf (p.96), waqf statement in name of Maḥmūd al-Daghastānī ( محمود الدغستاني ) son of al-Shaykh Saʻīd ibn al-Mullā ʻAbd al-Raḥīm ibn al-Mullā ʻAbd al-Karīm al-Daghastānī ( الشيخ سعيد بن الملا عبد الرحيم بن الملا عبد الكريم الدغستاني ), endowed to al-Sayyid Qāsim ibn al-Sayyid ʻAlī Daqqāq al-Dūdah [al-Dawdah ?] ( السيد قاسم بن السيد علي دقاق الدوده ) and his offspring after him and then to students, wittnessed by al-Sayyid Amīn al-Khayyāṭ ( السيد امين الخياط ) ; marginal corrections.
