2 V(20), III (26), I (28) ; two quinions, ternion and single bifolium ; final three leaves left blank ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization.
Script:
Naskh ; angular 'Syrian' or Turkish hand in a narrow line ; virtually serifless with many closed counters, pointing in strokes rather than distinct dots, rounded, kāf mashqūqah preferred, etc.
Support:
European laid paper with 8 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 28-30 mm. apart (horizontal), anchor in circle with leaf above watermark (see p.2, 40, etc.) and "T B" under trefoil countermark (see p.36, etc.).
Binding:
Thin boards covered in pieced coated paper (dark pink/mauve and white, mottled with sponge painted or faux marbled look) with dark blue cloth over spine ; Type III binding (without flap) ; board linings in untinted paper ; sewn in light pink thread, two stations ; overall in fair condition with some abrasion ; textblock likely never attached to cover, which is quite ill-fitting and serves as a wrapper.
Former Shelfmarks:
From lower cover label and spine label, "IL 305" (likely supplied by Yahuda, see acquisitions slip).
Ownership and History:
Former owners' marks include two ownership statements and two circular seal impressions on 'title page' (p.1), one statement nearly effaced, the other (dated 1319 [1901 or 2]) in name of Ḥasan ibn [?] Muḥammad al-Rizq Ḥamawī (حسن ابن محمد الرزق حموى ) who purchased the book from al-Shaykh Aḥmad (compare statements in Isl. Ms. 500, 619, and 623) ; ownership statement at close on p.50 in name of al-Sayyid ʻUmar al-Kīlānī (السيد عمر الكيلاني) ; rare marginal correction (see p.28).
