i, 4 V(40), i ; exclusively quinions ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes flyleaves).
Script:
Naskh ; fine Ottoman hand ; partially though inconsistently seriffed and quite rounded with slight effect of tilt to the left, adheres to baseline, point of final nūn often assimilated with bowl, pointing (for two and three dots) mainly in strokes or conjoined dots.
Decoration:
Keywords, section headings, abbreviation symbols (mainly two-teeth stroke), etc. rubricated ; overlining in red ; textual dividers in the form of red discs ; written area surrounded by frame consisting of heavy gold band flanked by black fillets.
Support:
European laid paper with 13 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 20 mm. apart horizontal, and watermark of "B | GM" under crest or crown (see p.10, 16, etc.) ; quite well-burnished to glossy, cream in color, sturdy though fairly thin and transluscent.
Binding:
Pasteboards covered in red leather ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in yellow-tinted laid paper and hinges in a paper printed with floral designs in red on white ; upper and lower covers bear blind-stamped (over black leather recessed onlays), gold-painted mandorla (filled with symmetrical vegetal composition, only slightly reminiscent of Déroche OAi2 3) and pendants along with tooled and gold-painted border ; sewn in pink thread, two stations ; endbands mostly gone, traces of primaries and core only ; overall in fair condition with minor staining, abrasion, lifting of leather at fore edge flap, etc.
Former Shelfmarks:
"339 T. D. M. [i.e. Tammaro De Marinis]" inscribed in pencil on verso of front flyleaf ; "28" inscribed in pencil on ’title page’ (p.3).
Origin:
As appears on p.53, transcription of Risālat Dārandawī completed in 1174 [1760 or 61]. As appears on p.82, transcription of Risālat al-istiʻārah completed in 1182 [1768 or 9]. Opening work likely copied around the same time by the same copyist.
Ownership and History:
Ownership statement accompanied by oval seal impression on recto of front flyleaf (p.1) ; inscriptions in pencil on verso of front flyleaf (p.2) "339 T. D. M. [i.e. Tammaro De Marinis]" and 'title page' (p.3) "28" ; marginal glosses (mainly منهيات).
