Elegant copy of a commentary by Muḥammad ibn al-Ṭayyib ibn Muḥammad al-Fāsī (d.1756) on the Ḥizb (liturgy, prayers) of Abū Zakarīyā Yaḥyá ibn Sharaf al-Nawawī (d. 1277), followed by a condensed version of the Ḥizb (p.142).

Script:
Naskh ; elegant 'Syrian' or Turkish hand ; mainly seriffed with right-sloping head-serifs on most ascender letters (including free-standing alif), slight effect of tilt to the left, curvilinear descenders, pointing in strokes (or conjoined dots) rather than distinct dots, etc.
Decoration:
Keywords and section headings rubricated ; textual dividers in the form of red inverted commas ; written area of incipit and facing page surrounded by gold rule-border, elsewhere surrounded by red rule-border.
Support:
European laid paper mainly with 10 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 23 mm. apart (horizontal), and watermarks including wreath with vase [?] (see p.8, etc.), crown and grapes (see p.35), and "FIN DE P CARTELIER A PERU ... 1743 [?]" ; another type with 12 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 23 mm. apart (horizontal), and watermark of grapes (raisin) with cartouche and crown above (see p.132, 134, 135, 137, etc.) ; beige in color, thin and transluscent though quite sturdy, well-burnished to glossy.
Binding:
Pasteboards (quite thin, semi-limp) covered in red leather ; Type III binding (without flap) ; board linings in untinted laid paper ; upper and lower covers carry tooled border in gold ; sewn in yellow thread, two stations ; sewn in light yellow thread, two stations ; only primaries (in light pink) remain of endbands ; overall in fair condition with staining, abrasion, etc.

Origin:
As appears in colophon on p.141, composition completed by the author, Muḥammad ibn al-Ṭayyib ibn Muḥammad al-Fāsī al-Madanī, 9 Ṣafar 1152 [May 1739] in his house in Medina under al-Minārah al-Sulaymānīyah of the Prophet's mosque (المسجد النبوي). Date of transcription for this copy not specified, though paper, etc. suggests mid 18th century, possibly ca. 1743.
Ownership and History:
Relatively clean copy with only a few marginal corrections ; possible former inventory mark with excerpt on 'title page' (p.5).
