"الحمد لله الذي اختص على رسوله حمدا صلى الله عليه وسلم بخالص حبه فكان اولى الخليقة واحقهم بربه ... وبعد فيقول العبد الفقير من العمل الراجي عفو ربه سليمان الجمل لما كانت الصلاة على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من اشرف الطاعات واعظم الوسائل الى القرب من رب البريات وكان اجل كتاب الف فيها دلائل الخيرات واكثر اشتغال الناس به في جميع الجهات ... شيخنا واستاذنا السيد الشريف محمد مجاهد الاحمدي ... فهو السبب في هذا الخير العظيم لان هذه الجمعية على قراة هذا الكتاب الشريف لم تسبق على يد غيره ... كان اعظم شرح وضع عليه مبسوطا مطالعا للعالم العلامة السيد محمد المهدي بن محمد بن علي بن يوسف الفاسي ورايت في طولا على الهمم القاصرات اختصرته اختصارا لطيفا مناسبا لزماننا الذي قصرت فيه الرغبة عن المبسوطات ... وسميته بالمنح الالهيات بشرح دلائل الخيرات ..."

13 V(130) ; exclusively quinions ; quire numbering in the form of Hindu-Arabic numerals under kāf mabsūṭah in the upper outer corner of the opening recto of each quire (in black ink and pencil) ; p.144 left partially blank to accommodate full page depiction of the Prophet's sandal on the following leaf ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes insert).

Layout:

Written in 27 lines per page ; frame-ruled.

Script:

Naskh ; angular Egyptian [?] hand ; virtually serifless with effect of tilt to the right and of words descending to baseline (occasionally more exaggerated), some sweeping descenders, freely ligatured, pointing in strokes rather than distinct dots, etc.

Decoration:

Keywords and text being commented upon rubricated ; several diagrams, mainly in red and black including diagram accompanying discussion of the Prophet's names (p.50), depictions of the rawḍah (p.86, 89, 90), sandal of the Prophet (p.145, 146), depiction of Jannah, al-Ṣirāṭ al-mustaqīm and al-Ṣirāṭ al-muʻwajj (p.221), and depiction of the head of a sheep (raʼs kharūf) as seen and described by al-Shaʻrānī (p.260).

Support:

European laid paper with 10 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 28 mm. apart (horizontal), and three crescents watermark (72 mm. long, perpendicular to chains, see p.6, 112, 113, etc.) ; quite sturdy though fairly transluscent, only lightly sized and burnished if so.

Binding:

Pasteboards covered in printed paper (leaf-like forms in green, white, and black) with black leather over spine and fore edge flap ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in untinted paper ; sewn in white thread, six stations ; worked chevron endbands in cream and black, fairly good condition ; overall in poor condition with significant abrasion, lifting and losses of leather (especially at fore edge flap), paper and pasteboard, staining, detaching at spine, etc. ; housed in box for protection.

Origin:

As appears in colophon on p.261, copied by ʻAbd al-Qādir al-Ḥabbāl with transcription completed 5 Dhū al-Qaʻdah 1264 [October 1848]. As appears in preceding authorial colophon on p.261 composition completed 16 Shaʻbān 1191 [September 1777].

Ownership and History:

Former owners' marks on 'title page' (p.3) including possible former inventory mark or shelfmark ٢٢٤ (also on tail edge) ownership statement on 'title page' (p.3) in name of the sons of the copyist, ʻAbd al-Qādir al-Ḥabbāl, reads "اولاد عبد القادر الحبال" ; marginal corrections and notabilia (side heads).
