i, 19 V (190), i ; exclusively quinions ; middle of the quire marks in the form of mark looking like numeral sittah ۶ in upper outer margin of right-hand leaf ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes insert and front flyleaf, skips two pages each between pp.223-224 and pp.233-234).

Layout:

Written in 27 lines per page ; frame ruled (impression of ruling board visible).

Script:

Maghribī script ; elegant hand with slight effect of tilt to the right, sweeping descenders, etc.

Decoration:

Some section headings, keywords and passages of text being commented upon rubricated ; others in yellow-orange ; textual dividers in the form red discs and inverted commas ; overlining in red.

Support:

European laid paper with 10 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 23 and 24 mm. apart (horizontal), and watermarks including lion rampant in coat of arms / scrollwork flanked by beasts with "F P below" (see p.368, 374, etc.) and name "PICARDO" (see p.391 and compare paper of C46a. MS. Shelley adds. c.5, fols. 113, 116-118 dated 1823 in Barker-Benfield, Shelleyan writing materials in the Bodleian Library, pp.86-87) ; transluscent, sturdy and quite well burnished to glossy.

Binding:

Pasteboards covered in marbled paper (mainly in red and yellow) with dark red-brown leather over spine, fore edge flap, and edges/turn-ins (framed binding) ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings (doublures) in marbled paper (mainly in teal and red) ; sewn in cream thread, two stations, also stab sewn in heavy cream thread ; worked chevron endbands in cream and lime-green over red primaries with red leather core, damaged ; overall in somewhat poor condition with cover serving as a wrapper for textblock (too large, not original, likely here reused), much abrasion and staining, lifting and losses of leather, etc. ; housed in box for protection.

Origin:

As appears in authorial colophon on p.377, transcription of the fair copy (tabyīḍ) completed 5 Dhū al-Ḥijjah 1139 [July 1727]. Collation (muqābalah) was first completed 1 Rajab 1141 [January 1729], followed by a second examination/correction (murājaʻah) completed at the beginning of Jumādá II [?] 1142 [December 1729] and finally a third 3 Rabīʻ II 1162 [March 1749]. Date of transcription for this copy not specified, though paper, etc. suggest early 19th century.

Ownership and History:

Marginal glosses (often marked by ط) and occasional marginal corrections ; prayers and excerpts on front flyleaf and 'title page' (p.3).
