"الحمد لله الرافع لقواعد الدين والاسلام والناصب لرايات الهدى الى دار الخلد والسلام ... فان العبد المستمد من فيض فضل العزيز الوهاب محمد ابن سليمان المشهور بكافيجي بين الاصحاب يقول لما رأيت الكتاب المسمى بالاعراب عن قواعد الاعراب للشيخ الامام جمال الدين محمد بن عبد الله بن يوسف ابن هشام ... في غاية حسن الوقع عند ذوي الالباب ونهاية عموم النفع لمن تأمله من الطلاب ولكنه غير مستغن عن شرح يسفر عن وجوه مخدراته من النقاب .. استخرت الله تعالى في ان ارتب له شرحا يذلل ابيان سوارده الصعاب ..."

"كفاية لمن تأمله فان التأمل اصل في ذكرك الامور كلها ... قال في اول هذا الكتاب يقتفي متأملها جادة الصواب جعلنا الله واياكم من اهل الجنة والثواب ... امين يا مجيب الدعوات ومفتح الابواب والحمد لله على جزيل نواله والصلوة والسلام على سيدنا محمد واله تمت الكتاب بعون الله الملك الوهاب"

i, 17 V (170), i ; exclusively quinions ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes flyleaves and inserts ; skips two pages between pp.323-324).
Script:
Naskh ; bold Turkish hand ; virtually serifless ; slight effect of tilt to the left ; closed and open counters ; kāf mashkūlah (mashqūqah) preferred ; alif maqṣūrah occasionally mardūdah ; point of final nūn occasionally joined to bowl ; some variatin in line thickness.
Decoration:
Some headings, vocalization, glosses, corrections, and abbreviation symbols rubricated ; overlining in red ; written area throughout surrounded by red rule-border.
Support:
European laid paper, likely of more than one type ; mainly with 9 laid lines per cm. (vertical) and chain lines spaced 25-26 mm. apart (horizontal) ; dark cream with some inclusions ; watermarks difficult to discern but include triple mount and fleur de lis above P G G ; another type with 11 laid lines per cm. (vertical) and chain lines spaced 23-24 mm. (horizontal) carries three hats watermark ; well-sized and burnished ; some moisture damage (mainly final two quires).
Binding:
Pasteboards covered in marbled paper with brown leather over spine, fore-edge flap, and edges/turn-ins; Type II binding (with flap, now lost) ; board linings in salmon/pink laid paper ; sewn in pink thread, two stations ; worked endbands damaged with core of headband exposed, tailband nearly gone ; overall in poor condition with flap entirely lost, significant abrasion, lifting and losses of paper and leather, delamination of boards, staining, paper label affixed to upper cover, etc.
Accompanying Materials:
Scrap with calligraphy exercises (paginated pp.99-100) ; scrap carrying repeated impressions of an ownership seal (paginated pp.277-278).
Ownership and History:
Bookplate of British Museum, London on upper cover, "British Museum, London. No. 1. Kawaid al-irab, with commentary." ; circular seal impression with figure of goat/gazelle in purple ink as well as inscription "162" in Western numerals on front flyleaf (p.1) ; on paper (blue-tinted) pasted on 'title page' (p.3), a detailed waqf statement in the name of al-Sayyid ʻAbd Allāh Adīb (Abdullah Edip), known as Jannatʹzādah (Cennet-zade), qāḍī of Erzurum, accompanied by his seal, reads: "وقفت وقفا صحيحا شرعيا على ان لا يخرج من بيت الكتب الملتصق بداري الا لعلماء سكنوا بارضروم بكفيل مرعى اورهن قوي وانا الفقير اليه عز شانه السيد عبد الله اديب الشهير بجنت زاده القاضي بمدينة ارضروم في سنة اثنى وستين ومائتين والف" ; repeated impressions of circular ownership seal "محمد توفيق" on inserted scrap (paginated p.278) ; numerous marginal glosses and corrections.
