V (10), IV (18), 2 V(38), V-2 (46), V (56), III (62) ; chiefly quinions ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization.

Layout:

Written in 17 lines per page ; frame-ruled (impression of ruling board evident).

Script:

Naskh ; fine Turkish hand ; mainly sans serif, but occasional head serifs appear on lām of definite article ; strong horizontal character, adhering to baseline ; slight contrast in thickness between horizontal and vertical strokes ; many descenders flattened (mabsūṭah) ; many closed counters ; point of final nūn usually assimilated with bowl.

Decoration:

Keywords and section headings rubricated ; occasional overlining in red.

Support:

European laid paper of several types ; one type with 6-7 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 30-33 mm. apart (horizontal), three crescent (tre lune) watermark (compare Heawood 869-870), thick and burnished though not very smooth ; another type much thinner and only lightly burnished, with 11 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 20-23 mm. apart (horizontal), crown above band with "I P" above grapes watermark ; soiled, stained and dog-eared.

Binding:

Pasteboards (semi-limp) covered in laid paper with dark brown leather at spine, fore-edge flap and edges/turn-ins ; Type III binding (without flap) ; board linings in indigo laid paper ; sewn in cream thread, two stations, often broken, all quires quite loose ; in very poor condition with significant abrasion, lifting and losses of paper and leather, delamination of boards, cover detaching at spine, etc. ; repairs in wove paper ; housed in envelope.

Bookplate of British Museum, London on interior of upper cover, "British Museum, London. No. 73. Talim al-mutaallim." ; circular seal impression with figure of goat/gazelle in purple ink as well as inscription "329" in Western numerals on 'title page' (p.1) ; on blue-tinted paper pasted on ’title page’ (p.1), a detailed waqf statement in the name of al-Sayyid ʻAbd Allāh Adīb (Abdullah Edip), known as Jannatʹzādah (Cennet-zade), qāḍī of Erzurum, accompanied by his seal, reads: "وقفت وقفا صحيحا شرعيا بشرط ان لا يخرج من بيت الكتب الذي بنيته في اتصال داري ان احتاجوا اشد الاحتياج بكفيل مرعى اورهن قوي وانا الفقير اليه عز شانه السيد عبد الله اديب الشهير بجنت زاده القاضي بمدينة ارضروم عفي عنه في سنة اثنى وستين ومائتين والف" ; also on 'title page' (p.1), octagonal seal impression, fairly illegible ; octagonal seal impression on p.19 reads "رب سهل امور السيد اسماعيل ۱۲۲۲" ; octagonal seal impression on p.38-39 (difficult to make out) ; oval seal impression on p.45 reads "سيد اسمعيل ۱۲۲۲" surrounded by a decorative inscription ; on p.124 ownership statement reads "صاحب ومالك منلا على افندى" ; glosses and marginal corrections.
