Written in 23 lines per page ; frame-ruled (impression of ruling board evident).


Naskh ; several hands, Syrian, Turkish and Persianate, all mainly sans serif.


Keywords, section headings, and abbreviation symbols ('two teeth stroke' logograph) rubricated and occasionally in yellow or orange ink ; textual dividers in the form of inverted commas, discs, etc. and overlining in red ink.


European laid paper with 8-9 laid lines per cm. (horizontal) and chain lines spaced 28-30 mm. apart (vertical) ; anchor in circle (trefoil above) watermark (compare Heawood 4).


Pasteboards covered in red-brown leather ; Type II binding (with flap, though now missing) ; doublures in red-brown leather ; upper and lower covers carry blind-stamped scalloped mandorla, pendants and corner pieces filled with assymetrical vegetal composition, along with gold-painted accents and stamped and gold-painted roll border framed by tooled fillets ; sewn in pink thread, two stations ; endbands virtually gone ; in poor condition with much abrasion, moisture damage, lifting and losses of leather, delamination of boards, loss of fore-edge and envelope flap, etc.

Lacks dated colophon ; paper suggests 17th century. Dated ownership statement on 'title page' (p.7) provides a terminus ante quem of 1694.

Bookplate of British Museum, London on upper cover, "British Museum, London. No. 59. Nuzhat al-absar." ; circular seal impression with figure of goat/gazelle in purple ink as well as inscription "14" in Western numerals on front flyleaf (p.1) ; a few ownership statements on 'title page' (p.7) including "تملكه الحقير الفقير علي بن احمد في جمادى الاولى سنة ۱۱۰٥ غروش ٥" and "من تملكات شيخ زاده" ; notabilia (side-heads) throughout ; collation marks "بلغ" and three dots appear throughout.
