Nastaʻlīq ; virtually serifless ; mainly closed counters ; characteristic effect of words descending to baseline, occasionally even more exaggerated ; occasional extension of horizontal strokes ; mainly closed counters ; letterforms characteristic of nastaʻlīq ; extensively vocalized.
Decoration:
Keywords, section headings, and abbreviations rubricated ; occasional textual divders in the form of inverted commas in red.
Support:
non-European laid paper with 6-7 laid lines per cm., curved and sagging ; chain lines only sporadically visible ; quite smooth with very few inclusions but whole fibers seen in sheet ; minor pest damage and staining.
Binding:
Pasteboard covered in green-brown leather with dark brown leather repairs on spine and at edges/turn-ins ; Type II binding (with flap, now mostly lost) ; board linings in laid paper ; cover bears blind-stamped scalloped mandorla with floral vegetal composition (compare Déroche class. NA 4) and gold-painted accents, along with frame in tooled fillets; sewn in yellow thread, two stations, though many quires loose ; endbands entirely gone ; in extremely poor condition with envelope flap and portion of fore-edge flap lost, upper cover detaching, significant abrasion, staining, lifting and losses of leather (especially at spine), delamination of boards, etc. ; housed in box for protection.
Ownership and History:
Bookplate of British Museum, London on interior of upper cover, "British Museum, London. No. 23. Mukhtar al-sihah." ; circular seal impression with figure of goat/gazelle in purple ink as well as inscription "122" in Western numerals 'title page' (p.1) ; also on 'title page' (p.1) waqf statement reads "وقف السيد الحاج عبد الله المفتي بكتبخانه [؟] المعمورة بارزنجان" ; fairly clean copy with very few marginalia.
