Clear copy of a Ḥanafī tract on the Pilgrimage by Aḥmad ibn ʻUmar al-Islāmbūlī (al-Istānbūlī, see Kaḥḥālah p.28, v.2 ed. Dimashq, 1958). Collated and corrected by the author and carrying his autograph (see 'titlepage' fol.1a/p.3 and fol.48a/p.97 in particular).

"الحمد لله ميسر الامور ومنور القلوب وشارح الصدور والصلاة والسلام على سيدنا محمد النبي المؤيد المنصور وعلى جميع اله واصحابه اهل الكمال والحضور ما قصدت حجاج زيارة نبيهم المصطفى بدر البدور والبيت الحرام وعرفة وفازوا بعظيم الثواب وجزيل الاجور اما بعد فهذا منسك مختصر على مذهب الامام الاعظم ابي حنيفة المقدم رحمه الله تعالى مشتمل على ما لا بد منه لكل من قصد الحج الى بيت الله الحرام وزيارة حضرة النبي عليه افضل الصلاة واكل السلام ..."

i, 5 V(50) ; entirely quinions ; final two leaves left blank ; catchwords present ; foliation in black ink, Hindu-Arabic numerals (begins on fol.2 with ٢ and ends on fol.48 with ٤٨) ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes front flyleaf).

Layout:

Written in 17 lines per page ; frame-ruled (impression of ruling board evident).

Script:

Naskh ; bold Turkish hand ; sans serif ; angular ; descenders tapered or flattened ; many open counters ; pointing with two dots fairly distinct ; very slight effect of tilt to left ; horizontal strokes somewhat elongated.

Decoration:

Text rubricated with keywords, section headings, overlining, etc. in red.

Support:

European laid and wove paper ; first two quires in laid paper with chain lines spaced 25-27 mm. apart (vertical) and roughly 10 laid lines per cm., tre lune watermark and cursive "G B [?]" countermark ; latter three quires in wove paper.

Binding:

Pasteboards covered in green paper with spine, fore-edge flap, and edges/turn-ins in red leather ; Type II binding (with flap, tucked inside lower cover) ; board linings in paper ; sewn in white thread, two stations ; chevron endbands in blue and white ; in fair condition with abrasion, staining, lifting of leather at spine and fore-edge, etc.

Origin:

As appears in colophon on fol.48a (p.97), copied by ʻAbd al-Fattāḥ ibn al-Sayyid ʻAbd Allāh al-Qaysī. Transcription finished ("wa-kāna al-farāgh minhā...") 10 Shawwāl 1265 [August 1849]. Corrected by the author as attested by his autograph on fol.48a (p.97).

Risalah fi 'l-hajj." ; circular seal impression with figure of goat/gazelle in purple ink as well as inscription "488" in Western numerals on fol.1a (p.3) ; also on fol.1a (p.3) faint circular waqf-seal impression in blue ink "وقف هذا الكتاب [المرحوم المغفور الحاج عزت باشا] " ; two dated loan statements (which appear to be in the hand of the author) on fol.1a (p.3) "عارية عند محمد شريمض افندى قاضى الحجاج سنة ١٢٦٦" and "عارية عند جناب حقى افندى ديوان افندسى المحترم في ۲۱ ل سنة ۱۲٦٨" [21 Shawwal 1268 = August 1852] ; marginal corrections and notabilia in the hand of the author, see collation/correction statement on fol.48a (p.97) (appears to be the author's autograph) "سردتها نظرا وصححتها حسب الامكان وانا مؤلفها الفقير الجهول احمد الاسلامبولى ابن عمر افندى الاسلامبولى عفا الله تعالى عنهما بمنه وكرمه امين".
