UM Library Instruction
Course-Related Instruction
The Library offers course-related instruction, anything from an introductory session for first-year
students working on their first research paper, to subject specific sessions directly related
to a higher level course. We will work with you to tailor the session to your curriculum - either
a demonstration in your classroom or a hands-on session in a Library computer lab. Some examples of recent
course integrated instruction include:
- Psychology 111: Hands-on instruction of PsycINFO and PubMed with time for targeted individual
help with student research topics.
- SWC 100:A Sweetland Writing Center seminar with a demonstration of ProQuest and a discussion of the
differences between scholarly and popular research resources.
- RefWorks for School of Education Graduate Students: An introduction to RefWorks (a bibliographic
management tool) for students starting their dissertation work.
- Nursing 505 (Bio-Behavior I): Hands-on instruction in MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Cochrane to
introduce effective search skills, locating evidence-based nursing literature and tools in evidence-based
practice.
- Patient and Populations 501: Combination of lecture and hands-on instruction integrated into
this first-year Medical School course introducing students to health information sources including PubMed and Stat!Ref,
using a case-based approach and orienting them to the overall UM online information environment.
