A
growing and varied collection (and one of our oldest) is our Juvenile
collection. Originally it was created to support courses at the Library
school. Today the audience is much wider, as is the collection, containting
over 7,000 books and over a dozen journals covering juvenile literature
and librarianship.
Supporting
students in the public library specialty as well as librarians and researchers
in children's literature, the collection covers journals, picture books,
young adult novels, and non-fiction. Our strongest holdings include
award winners, and increasingly Western European titles as well.

Special
Juvenile Collections
Our Special Collections
Library also houses various collections donated to the library over
the past decades. Most of the collections are not yet catalogued, and
use will be difficult, though possible.
Walp
Family Collection of Children's Literature
7000 books and 15 linear feet of archival material related to American
20th-century illustrated children's books. Strengths include a comprehensive
collection of Caldecott Award winners, and rich correspondence and original
artwork by Robert Lawton, Ed Embry, and others.
Gosling
Collection of Moveable Books
2000 books that move, including mainly pop-up books, but with many examples
of many different kinds of paper engineering, mainly from the 20th century.
Henty
Collection
About 500 volumes by turn-of-the-century writer of adventure stories,
G. A. Henty.
Janice
Dohm Collection
A collection of several thousand 20th-century children's books emphasizing
British, Australian, and European authors with a strong inclusion of
chapter books and stories for young adults. There is an excellent collection
of folk tales and legends, extensive holdings of selected authors, e.g.,
Walter Crane, Walter De la Mare, Eleanor Farjeon, and Kenneth Grahame,
and a large reference collection for European authors and trends.
The
Chalat Family Arthur Rackham Collection
More than two hundred books with illustrations by Rackham, along with
an extensive collection of magazines in which his work first appeared,
and
some ephemera. The collection is notable for its complete holdings of
more than forty signed, limited editions featuring very fine printing
and vellum
bindings.
Tom
Pohrt Archive
A collection of sketches, drawings, drafts of stories, research notes,
proof sheets, correspondence with writers, editors, and book designers,
and final publications for 12 of Pohrt's children's books. For all but
one Pohrt was the illustrator; for _Having a Wonderful Time_ (1999),
he was both author and illustrator.
Hubbard
Imaginary Voyage Collection
This collection consists primarily of editions of _Gulliver's Travels_
and _Robinson Crusoe_. The holdings of the latter title have in recent
years been expanded to include adaptations for children as well as a
few video productions.
