Developing the Instructor College Curriculum is an iterative process. Topics as well as content evolve to meet members' changing needs. Sessions range from formal instruction and guest lectures to more casual meetings, such as brownbag lunches, discussion groups, and video viewings.

To develop the initial curriculum the Instructor College Steering Committee selected two modes.

Foundation Sessions aim to provide a common grounding for Library instructors through four segments:

  • Orientation
  • Marketing
  • Working with Faculty
  • Planning a Session
Thematic Sessions are being designed to further develop specialty skills. Areas to be covered in the coming year include:

  • Presentation Skills
  • Working with Content
  • Technology
  • Assessment
  • Learning Theory/Instructional Design

Sessions are being developed by small task forces which include a member of the Instructor College Steering Committee. Each task force is asked to identify key concepts and learning outcomes for the themes, and using these key concepts, propose two-to-four well-defined learning/training events such as classes, brownbags, discussions, lab sessions, video viewing, etc. Each task force will also submit a brief (two page) written report by June 15, 2001 to the Steering Committee describing their work. The Steering Committee will then use these reports to develop the fall semester Instructor College curriculum.

If you are interested in finding out more about these task forces please contact a member of the Steering Committee.
