This University Library Associate position in the Graduate Library is designed to provide experience and professional growth in the provision of technology instruction and reference services in the research library context.
Environment
The Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library is the University of Michigan's primary research collection for the humanities and social sciences. The Graduate Library collection numbers approximately 2.5 million volumes including 10,000 journals and periodical subscriptions written in several hundred languages and covering a broad array of subject specialties. The collections and subject specialists support scholarship campus wide.

The Knowledge Navigation Center (KNC) provides assistance and instruction to faculty, staff, and students with a variety of technical backgrounds in the use of digital cameras, digital imaging, HTML, Adobe Photoshop, OCR text scanning, EndNote, ProCite, Power Point and other technology tools. KNC staff have a unique opportunity to gain further insight into human needs regarding technology, and provide instruction in using multimedia. Position Structure
The ULA will report directly to the Manager of the Knowledge Navigation Center, working also with the direction and support of the Coordinator of the Information Center. The first year will concentrate on developing core public service skills instruction practice in the research environment. The experience is structured to be developmental over the two year tenure, with assignments increasing in responsibility and independence each semester.
