UM Wireless Network Available in Shapiro and Hatcher Libraries
- Wireless computing is available in the Shapiro and Hatcher libraries
to anyone with a valid UM Uniqname and password, and with the necessary
equipment. The UM Wireless Network is a local area network (LAN) available to U-M staff, faculty, and
students. It is a partnership among the University Library; Michigan Unions; Campus Computing Sites; Information
Technology Communications (ITCom), and other Information Technology Central Services (ITCS) units.
- To use the UM Wireless Network, you need a portable computer with an 802.11b compatible wireless network card
and a recent web browser.
-
How to use UM Wireless at the Library:
- Insert your wireless card (unless the wireless card is built in)
and turn on your computer
- Set your wireless configuration (network name/SSID) to UM Wireless
Network with no WEP encryption
- Launch a web browser (Macintosh users DO NOT attempt to authenticate with Internet Explorer, your connection will
not be secure, your password will not be encrypted)
- Login using your Uniqname and password
- You are now connected and can use your network applications
