How to Find Full text Articles in Electronic Journals

Last Updated November 2007

You may access electronic journals from Mirlyn or by entering the title in the box labeled "Search" at the top of all Library web pages and clicking on the result under electronic journals. . Both of these resources similarly list all routes of access to the electronic version of the journal.

In databases such as UM-MEDSEARCH and PubMed, you may use the M Get It button to reach electronic articles directly. If MGet It does not retrieve the individual article you need, check the Mirlyn Library Catalog for campus availability. Delivery Service options (Interlibrary Loan, photocopies) are also available through the MGetIt window.

Accessing from the Mirlyn Library Catalog:

The following Mirlyn record shows that there are two ways to access JAMA electronically:

  • If the article you are looking for has a URL to the publisher, click on the appropriate volume, issue and then the page of the article you are looking for when you connect to the publisher's website or use the Browse function if available.
  • Some journals require passwords; these are available to UM affiliates. For the journal JAMA, clicking on the link http://pk.lib.umich.edu/ACC6079.html will take you to an intermediate page providing the user name and password and a link to the journal.
  • Most publisher websites provide full text of articles in PDF format using Adobe Acrobat which will give you print as it appears in the print journal.
