Graduate Library Reference Services

The staff at the Graduate Library's Information and Reference Center is available most hours the library is open. Reference assistance is available to library users in searching Mirlyn, as well as in the use of numerous print and electronic research tools. Basic Reference Resources
A small collection of general reference materials such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, and indexes.

Reference Collection
A more comprehensive collection of reference resources in the humanities and social sciences.

Subject Guides
Chosen by subject specialists in the Graduate Library, these are smaller subject-specific collections of resources in the humanities and social sciences. Also includes links to other research guides throughout the University Library system.

New Books
A list of titles received in the University Library within the past month, searchable by author, title, subject, or library collection.

Citation & Style Guides
Includes MLA, APA, and electronic citation formats.

 

Hatcher-Shapiro Library Navigator
3-D representations of library, department, and call number locations in the Hatcher-Shapiro complex, with links to campus maps as well.

University Reserves (Hatcher-Shapiro)
Information on Course Reserve materials, with links for both students and faculty.

CTools
The UM site for coursework, projects, and collaboration on the web.

Searchpath Research Tutorial
The Undergraduate Library’s tutorial for researching and writing papers, including how to get started, choosing a topic, and citing sources.

Internet Public Library
A non-profit organization which provides evaluated collections of Internet resources and which provides direct information assistance to Internet users.

Michigan eLibrary
A project of the Library of Michigan, MeL is an internet library available to all Michigan residents 24/7.

Google Scholar
A special service of Google, where web search results are restricted to scholarly sources such as preprint servers, academic publisher web sites, professional societies, etc.

Wikipedia
A multi-lingual web-based free-content collaborative encyclopedia in which articles are written and edited by the users.

MapQuest
Maps and directions to specific locations in the US and many other countries.
